Summerfield Township is located on the western border of Monroe County, adjacent to Lenawee County and Deerfield to the west. US-23 runs north and south between Ann Arbor, Michigan and Toledo, Ohio offering quick commuting for residents who choose to work outside of Monroe County.

      The landscape is primarily rural and agricultural with the River Raisin to the north running around the more heavily populated City of Petersburg. There you will find quaint shopping, small town comfort and the township hall located at 26 Saline St.

     Nearly the entire 42.4 square miles of Summerfield Township is perfect for outdoor enthusiasts who prefer a low population density and quiet, peaceful living. In the off season, the Petersburg State Game Area can be enjoyed by nature enthusiasts and in by hunters during Michigan’s regulated hunting seasons.

     Local schools include Summerfield Public Schools. As of 2000, there were 3,233 residents in 1,098 households. The median income for a household in the township was $62,105 and only 2.3% of the population was below the poverty line.
