There are 20,777 people who reside in Frenchtown Township according to the 2000 census.
Three communities are located within Frenchtown Township. These include Stony Point, Woodland Beach, and Detroit Beach. These communities are located on the eastern-most point in Frenchtown along the coastline of Lake Erie. Other communities along the shoreline are Indian Trails, Erie Shores, Baycrest Beach, and Grand Beach.
One of the big draws for visitors and residents is Sterling State Park. The state park is a hotspot for swimming in Lake Erie, boat launches, and fishing. Sterling State Park is not only a highlight of Frenchtown Township, it is a main tourist attraction for all of Monroe County.
Like Ash and Berlin Townships, Frenchtown is in close proximity to highways I-275 and I-75, making travel to northern areas, such as Detroit and Dearborn, and southern areas, such as Toledo and Ottawa Lake, very easy. Barring heavy traffic, a commuter or traveler can reach Detroit within a half hour from Frenchtown.
Another attraction of Frenchtown Township is the Frenchtown Square Mall. Home to Target, Elder-Beerman, Sears, Waldenbooks, Olga’s Kitchen, Taco Bell, hair salons, and other stores, the mall is the main retail outlet for Frenchtown, the city of Monroe, and north Monroe County.
Frenchtown Township is also home to Monroe County’s movie theaters. Regal Cinemas, located in the Frenchtown Square Mall, hosts eight theaters playing the mainstream hits and releases, with early matinee showings and later showings. Deniston Cinema, located a few miles north of the Frenchtown Square Mall, has been in Monroe County for years. Family owned and operated, the Deniston Cinemas hosts three screens and shows a mix of mainstream features films as well as more obscure art-house films more likely to be seen in a place like Ann Arbor or Royal Oak. Deniston has also played films produced and directed by local filmmakers.
Aside from the mall and the movie theaters, another attraction in Frenchtown Township is the Monroe Golf and Country Club, members only golf course that hosts special events throughout the year.
The Monroe Golf and Country Club is considered by many area and visiting golfers to be the finest golf course in not only Monroe County, but throughout southern Michigan and northeastern Ohio.
Many of the school age residents attend Jefferson High School and Jefferson Junior High School, considered two of the finest schools throughout southeastern Michigan.
Frenchtown also has many churches. Like the other areas throughout Monroe County, most of the churches located in Frenchtown are Baptist, Lutheran, Methodist, or non-denominational.
