Erie Township is found just north of the Toledo, Ohio border on the Lake Erie shoreline. There are a multitude of shallow yet protective inlets and islands for boating, parties and exploring. 5.6 square miles of water and marshland can be found amongst 24.1 square miles of agricultural and wooded landscape.
As of the 2000 census, 4,850 people lived amongst 1,789 households with an average income of $52,442 per household. The heaviest population density can be found in Luna Pier, originally established as a fishing community. The community is uniquely placed along the eastern side of I-75 with a direct on-ramp. Multiple parks and recreation facilities are found within the Luna Pier City limits which include a pier and small yet clean beach.
Students may attend St. Joseph private school or Mason Consolidated Schools with entrances on S. Dixie Hwy. & Lakeside Rd. Mason consists of the elementary, junior high and high school situated on an open landscape with large acreage for playgrounds, athletics and wooded trails. Erie Township is a quaint area with direct access to major cities. It's a close community with family ties that link its residents with early settlers and French fur trappers.
Telegraph and S. Dixie Hwy. run west of I-75 directing traffic between Monroe and Toledo, thus, many residents commute to Toledo with ample employment opportunities. Local employment can be found amongst the agricultural companies, Consumer’s Power Company, and Bedford Township to the west. Many residents of Erie Township also choose to make the 40+ minute drive north on I-75 to Dearborn and Detroit for work.
